Luc & Jean-Pierre Dardenne’s “Tori and Lokita”

Tori and Lokita (2022)

Engaging crime drama with captivating leads which rushes some of its most dramatic scenes and though sympathetic sometimes veers towards uncomfortable tropes

Led by strong performances from Mbundu Joely(Lokita) and Pablo Schils(Tori) , this tells the story of two African immigrants to Belgium highlighting their vulnerability in a system which makes them easy pickings for those willing to exploit their situation. The story itself is relatively pedestrian though effective in emparting the issues on show but our two central characters are so believable and engaging that it’s lifted to another level.
